Eye Has Not Seen

Let a man talk about how much fun heaven will be and he will usually meet with incredulity — people roll their eyeballs or shake their heads at him, inform him that we don’t know anything about heaven, and remind him that the Bible says “eye has not seen.”

But this incredulity is not based on a knowledge of the Bible but a lack of knowledge. The very next verse informs us that God has revealed the amazing things that he has prepared for those who love him. He has revealed them by his Spirit — by the Spirit-filled men he used to pen the Spirit-inspired books of the Bible.

The fact is, the Bible gives us numerous glimpses of heaven and the eternal reward of the believer. These enable us to know many things about our wonderful future with certainty. We know that there is a new heavens and a new earth (Rev. 21:1). We know that there is an insanely large and amazing city which God made for us to inhabit (Rev. 21). We know that believers shall receive a glorified, spiritual body — a true body — not susceptible to sickness, injury, or death (1 Cor. 15:42-49). We know that believers will enjoy stuff there — better and eternal stuff (Heb. 10:34). These glimpses suggest that heaven is every good thing that the human heart ever has or ever will long for. What an amazing place! And what an amazing God!
