Weary and Heavy Laden?

One of my favorite verses in the Bible is Matthew 11:28, “Come unto me all you who are weary and heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” What a precious promise. No man can pass through this life and not grow weary. No man can walk in this world and not experience times when he feels heavy laden with worries, fears, and sorrow. Sometimes we find ourselves so crushed with our burdens that our friends, our family, our counselors, and even our pastors are powerless to help us, though we are thankful for their concern.

But there is no need to bear your burdens alone, not even if you are a homeless orphan without family and friends. Jesus is the “friend of sinners” (Matthew 11:18). He understands when no one else does. He cares when no one else does. He listens when no one else does. His phone is never busy. He is never out of the office. He is never so busy that he can’t find time for you.

Why wait any longer? Why try to tough it out one more day on your own? Look upward. Look to the Lord Jesus Christ. He that can still the wind and the waves (Mark 4:39) can still your heart. He can ease your sorrows and soothe your pains. He can turn your fear into faith. He can put a song in your heart, even in the midst of the toughest situations and circumstances.
